Please join us for a special General Meeting on February 12, 2015. We've picked a different day and date this month to accommodate the schedule of visiting artist Wil Lala. The Lala family are prolific artists. Wil is a 3D artist who is known for his stone sculptures, lost wax castings and metal tapestries. His wife Susan works primarily in watercolors and they live half of each year at their home on Ambergris Caye, Belize. Their daughter, Lisa Lala Harris is also an artist. He shares his vision and enthusiasm for art via one-man-shows and workshops in Belize and across the U.S.

Wil will discuss his latest Green Art Project where he encourages what he calls "up-cycling". Wil creates colored "pixels" made from squares cut from aluminum beverage cans and links them together with wire to form room-sized tapestries that move with the slightest breeze and reflect light in amazing ways.

"It is interesting to note that when he is working in Belize, Lala trades fresh fish he has caught for aluminum cans that the locals collect.  The cans are washed and cut up into small squares he calls pixels.  Holes are punched in each pixel and the pixels are wired together with recycled copper wire.  Hundreds and hundreds of brilliant pixels come together that reach back to the ancient traditions of tapestries and mosaics.  These glittering aluminum fabrics merge the past with the future."

You can watch his latest NYC Show Video Interview but you will want to attend his discussion in-person. If you miss it, you can review his presentation as a PDF hereYou can also read Wil's free, self-published ebook "Where There Is A Wil, There's A Way". Please note that this special day and date replaces our normal 4th Wednesday meeting in February.

This is also the month to "put your name in the hat" and run for an NTAL board member position. The vote is held at the March General Meeting.
