January General Meeting Topics

Our next general meeting is on January 28th. We will be in the new Compton Park Community building and it is an absolutely gorgeous facility.

This month we host our Member's Show & Tell and encourage each of you to bring a recent work or work-in-progress to share and discuss a technique or new perspective that excited you about it.

Our annual Members Show is scheduled for May. It will again be hosted at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. We need to pick a title for the show (last year's was Creative Expressions) and we will solicit ideas from the membership and vote. If you can't attend the meeting, send us your suggestions by email. This is also NTAL's Tenth Anniversary so see if you can incorporate a decade of art into your ideas.

As with any NTAL event, we need members to volunteer their time and efforts to make it a success. The reception, installation and take-down committees for the Members Show are formed but we still need an awards committee to select a qualified non-member to jury the show and to coordinate ordering the award ribbons. We are also looking for local businesses that will sponsor prizes. Let Carol Northington know if you will help.

Also on the subject of volunteerism, no one is paid to work for NTAL. We each directly contribute to the success of our organization so get involved. If there is something that interests you, offer to develop and coordinate it for the group. We are always looking for more opportunities to exhibit our works. As you develop contacts for your own works, check on the possibility of a membership show too.

Our Friends of NTAL MeetUp group has been great at letting new members know about our organization. For 2015, we encourage members to form whatever groups interest you and to schedule activities beyond our monthly meetings. We will publish this on MeetUp for you to save the cost of posting there. For example, you can schedule group photo walks, en plein air or media specific gatherings that interest you. Other than any required costs such as park admission fees, these events must be free to NTAL members. Guest participants will pay a $5 fee. If they decide to join NTAL after an event, that fee will go towards membership.

Ideas:
  • University of Tampa campus en plein air and photography field trip (limited to weekends)
  • Ybor City photo walk (painters bring your camera for reference photos)
  • Botanical garden en plein air and photography field trips - there are many to choose from
  • Suggestions?

Speaking of membership, your 2015 dues should be paid by January 31. We have decided not to increase rates to cover higher expenses and are working to focus on adding new members. You can pay in person at the general meeting or mail a check. You will find all the details here. Your membership must be paid to participate in NTAL sponsored events.

Artist of the Month spots are still available for 2015 so let John Henne know if you'd like to exhibit your art there.

We have a month long exhibition at Jimmie B Keel library for February. The reception is February 4 from 6pm - 8pm and hope to see our membership in attendance.

As a reminder, our February general meeting is on a different day and date, Thursday, 2/12 instead of Wednesday, 2/25. Wil Lala will discuss his Green Art project. He is flying in from Ambergris Caye, Belize so let's show him a great turnout.
