In Review - 2014

It has been a great year for NTAL. Our membership has grown, thanks in part to our exposure to the larger local art community via Meetup. We’ve also revamped our website, starting fresh at

The new homepage is your one stop resource for all things NTAL. In addition to links to topic specific pages, the homepage’s “Looking Ahead” section gives you a quick summary of upcoming events including meetings and art calls. Our “Hot News” section on the homepage gives you a brief look at, and links to, the most recent NTAL related articles. These articles range from NTAL events, reminders and information on non-NTAL events such as a member’s show or award. The full “Hot News” link takes you to a consolidated view of all current articles and the “Hot News Archive” is where we retain older stories should you want to review them.

At our home page, you will also find links to member art galleries,  Artist of the Month, the current status of various committees, membership and projects

One of the things you will have noticed this year is the slow migration from a published, stand-alone news letter to our website. As 2014 closes, Jeanne’s December news letter will be the final edition. Please take a moment to thank her for all her hard work and dedication to keeping our membership informed on a weekly basis.

Between and Meetup, you will have access anytime to the latest NTAL information. In addition, you can stay informed on what is happening in our local arts community at Tampa Arts (, by subscribing to the Arts Council of Hillsborough County’s free weekly email.

We achieved a lot of milestones this year. We continue our public outreach at New Tampa Regional Library, Hunters Green and we added Grow Financial in Wesley Chapel in exhibiting NTAL member art. We worked on a pair of 9 panel paintings that we plan to donate to the new Compton Park Community Center. We also responded generously to a request for artwork for the Shriners Hospital for Children.

NTAL members who have a presence on Fine Art America can make their images available for display in the Friends of NTAL group as well. Login to your FAA account and join us at Friends of NTAL - Fine Art America. Once you have joined the group you can add your images just by checking to include it. NTAL members can upload up to 25 images per day to the NTAL gallery. The board will make every effort to review and approve member submitted images at least once per week.

Our monthly General Meeting schedule changed this year to host a member’s Show & Tell every other month alternating with Guest Speakers on a variety of art-related topics. We ended 2014 with another great Holiday Celebration at our December meeting. There was lots of camaraderie and laughter.

It would be remiss to close out the year without a special thanks to our most active members that volunteer their time and energy to make this organization work. As always, volunteers get priority at any space-limited NTAL event. You can bring snacks to a General Meeting, help with set-up or take-down of an NTAL art exhibit, participate in a project or on one of our many committees. All help is welcome and appreciated.

In Anticipation - 2015

Membership dues should be paid by the end of January. You can mail a check or bring it to the January 28th meeting. New members that joined in October or later are already paid up for 2015. Email reminders will be sent from as will any last minute notices with a very short timeframe. We will be respectful of your inbox and won’t be sending more than a few emails a month at most.

In March, 2014, you elected the current board members: Dave Beebe, President; John Henne, Vice President; Joan Garcia, Treasurer; Carol Northington, Secretary; Jeanne Forsythe, Newsletter.

In March, 2015, we will have elections to the board for the next term. Please make it known if you would like to be on the slate for any of the board positions. The offices of President, Vice President Publicity, Vice President Events, Treasurer and Secretary need to be filled each year for NTAL to maintain its non-profit status. The board meets for 2 hours each month (currently the 3rd Tuesday at 11am) to address the needs of the art league.

It has been said that artists should be involved in their art communities.  Being a member of the NTAL Board is an excellent way of contributing.  You will have opportunities to experience from a leadership position how the North Tampa arts community works.

Your board wishes you continued inspiration to express your art and to share it with the Tampa Art community. We look forward to what 2015 brings.
