The Bunker, located at 1907 N.19th Street, Ybor City, presents an exhibit of the artwork by two well-known local artists, Marie Schadt and Virginia Butler in their show, “Landscapes and Wildlife”, March 1-29, 2015. The opening "Meet and Greet" on Sunday, March 8, between 1-3 pm will give the public an opportunity to meet the artists presenting their work.

Both artists are finely attuned to their subjects in landscapes and wildlife. Marie’s scenes, drawn from the Desert to pastoral countryside roads tempts the viewer to become lost in the landscape. Both artists, although mostly self-taught, have been taking classes at the Life Enrichment Center, 9704 N. Boulevard with instructor Tim Gibbons.

Marie states that “watercolors are my favorite” but she has recently branched out into acrylics and oils. Marie is also an expert miniature artist and has been invited to exhibit her miniatures at the Miniature Art Society of Florida’s annual show at the Leepa-Rattner Museum, now until February 15. Marie feels that “it’s just intuition to feel what makes a good picture.”

Virginia, “recently retired from the corporate world” now finds time to devote to her passion in painting with oils. Her love of wildlife is expressed in meticulous recreations, right down to each feather or hair. She volunteers at a local zoo, where most of her favorite subjects reside. Virginia’s paintings are so lifelike that one imagines you could reach out and pet the fur of her “Rosco the Cat”. Her “Toby, Elephant Eye” brings you face to face with the elephant, witnessing its great wisdom and beauty. Virginia learned art mostly on her own by “reading books, magazines and visiting art museums.” Virginia has shown her work extensively throughout Tampa, and at the annual Zoofari event at Lowry Park Zoo.

Marie and Virginia will host an opening “Meet and Greet” the artists at The Bunker on Sunday, March 8, between 1-3 pm. The Bunker offers an array of specialty coffees, teas, beer, wine, appetizers, sandwiches, salads and delicious desserts and is open Mondays-Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 8-4, Thursdays, 8-11 (free music night!), and Sundays 11-3pm.
