"Incoming" by Diane Harm and
"The Calf Roper" by Oliver Parson.

OLIVER PARSON’S painting, The Calf Roper, is acrylic on canvas. This lively painting is part of a series depicting the African American cowboy. Oliver grew up in Louise, Texas and like many young boys; he wanted to be a cowboy. Cowboys were glamourized in the movies, but none looked like him.  In real life, he was exposed to rodeos and the Negro Rodeo Association and loved watching the horses in action. His family also had ranch animals and horses.  His artwork is steeped in both historical and contemporary context and reflects his experiences and environment. Through this series of paintings, he hopes to educate and highlight the African American cowboy as the vital part of the everyday life of the average cowboy, particularly in the western territories before they became states. Oliver paints primarily in acrylic and enjoys drawing with ink. Stay tuned for the completion of his series this spring! Contact Information:

DIANE HARM’S painting, ‘Incoming’, was inspired by a spring visit to a friend’s garden in Ohio.  The garden was full of birds darting about and her birdbath fountain was a favorite gathering place.  It was a happy, joyful setting. Diane is an award-winning artist in both Ohio and Florida and her paintings have been accepted in international exhibits.  After being certified as a Botanical Artist at the Ringling School of Art and Design under the tutelage of Olivia Braida Chiusano, it was a small step to include other nature art in her portfolio. It is the up close details that intrigue her.

Diane Harm is best known for her realistic colored pencil and mixed media paintings of birds.  Often going beyond mere bird portraits she strives to picture her birds in situations that tell a story or evoke an emotion. It fascinates her that so much of nature is right at home in urban and suburban environments.  Though many of her paintings have been influenced by visits to nature and conservation preserves, others have been found in her own community.
